FAQ

1: What size are you limited to?

There is no limit to the sizes of the building that Cold Steel is limited. From the largest Industrial buildings and warehouses to the tallest multi story building, our range is the largest in the industry.

2: Is it more economical to use RCC columns than steel columns?

This is not the case any more since the brick, tor and cement prices have gone up significantly and it is especially uneconomical to use RCC columns where one might need cranes columns or columns higher than 5 mtrs.

3: What is the transportation component in the total cost?

On an average the transportation component is just about 4 to 5 % of the total cost which is quite nominal.

4: Is PEB cheaper than conventional / on-site fabrication?

PEB is at least 25 to 30 % cheaper and much faster as well. For example a 1-lakh sq. ft. PEB can be completed in just 3 months.

5: Are pipe sections / space frames lighter and cheaper compared to your product?

In some cases they might be but correct comparisons can only be drawn if we have exact specification with us.

6: Is it possible to dismantle the building and rebuild at another place? What will be the cost of new and reassembled building?

Yes, since the building is site assembled by bolting, it is possible to dismantle and rebuild at a new location. The cost benefits have to be worked out on a case-by-case basis, which would depend on size, complexity and distance of the new location.

7: Is there a warranty available on the building?

Cold Steel buildings come with a 50-year limited warranty, which may vary, from case to case based on the design criteria. Further details can be explained during one to one meetings.

8: How much does a Cold Steel Building System cost?

Prices may vary from case to case depending volume/area of the building, on the design loads and codes, spacing between columns, material finishes, accessories, location, etc. To obtain a realistic cost we recommend you contact us and we will assist you in developing an efficient building layout, specifications for the facility, and provide a comprehensive proposal with detailed pricing.

1: Compared to RCC buildings are PEBs safe in case of earthquakes etc.?

Yes, because RCC beams/columns/structures are not as strong when it comes to shear or tensile forces whereas steel is much stronger in these areas.

2: Do you also use sag rods made out of rods?

No we use sag rods made out of angles as they have both anti sag and anti twist properties.

3: Are American standards better / safer than Indian

A standard being Indian or American does not make it better or inferior. It just depends on the design criterion and specific cases according to which design standards can be chosen. Cold Steel recommends use of Indian standards or IBC only.

4: Are all the joints bolted or welded?

All the joints are bolted and there is absolutely no welding done at site.

5: What is the material of the rain water channels

Only at Cold Steel we use 2 mm thick G.I. material to manufacture gutters (compared to .5 mm used by others). It is much stronger and rust proof.

6: Can windows/ shutters etc. be fitted in side cladding?

Windows, shutters etc. can be fitted quite easily by providing framed openings wherever needed. Cold Steel offers sliding doors, windows and doorframes and shutter frames to suit your architectural and operational requirements.

7: Can the buildings be made dust proof?

Yes, the steel buildings can be made reasonably dust proof by using form filers and sealants/tapes. The quality of cladding and its installation also plays an important role in that. Cold Steel has executed several projects for food industry where the buildings have been made dust proof.

8: What is shot blasting and why is shot blasting needed?

Shot Blasting is a mechanical process to remove the mill scale (pure carbon). It is needed so that the parent material gets exposed and can be painted directly leading much longer paint life. It is not a necessary process, but if done, it certainly improves the paint life by double.

9: Do you use any hot rolled angles or I sections?

No at Cold Steel we only use built up sections or cold-formed sections. We have our own state of the art H-beam manufacturing facilities where we produce these sections in large quantities, exactly as per the design required by each building.

10: Are pre-engineered sheds / buildings appropriate when heavy cranes are required?

Absolutely, in fact they are the most appropriate since columns are adequately designed to take the load of the crane. Cold Steel has executed crane structures having up to 100 tons of EOT.

11: Which kind of steel do you use?

Cold steel uses high tensile steel. Fabrication of all primary members is done from plates from fe 490 (IS – 8500) min ys = 345 mpa or equivalent. All secondary members (purlins & runners) are cold formed (shot blasted/pickled) & confirm to fe 440 (is – 8500) with a minimum yield strength of 300 mpa or equivalent.

12: Do you Provide foundation design also?

Yes, Cold Steel Provides detailed foundation designs along with an instruction manual for casting of the anchor bolts at no extra cost. This is a unique feature provided by Cold Steel Corporation.

13: Which design codes will the building comply to?

Cold Steel complies to Indian Standards (IS), International Building Codes (IBC) and British Standards (BS) generally, however we have the design flexibility to adopt any other relevant code if required.

14: How do you control the temperature inside the buildings?

Cold Steel provides with various options for roof and wall insulation in order to achieve the required temperature value. Various insulation options could be glass wool, bubble paper, puff panels, rockwool etc. You may call or mail us and our team to know the most suitable option for your project.

15: Can you provide buildings without interior columns?

Yes, Cold Steel provides clear span frames for all structures where large column free area is necessary. The most economical framing method, however, is to include interior columns when spans are more than 75 feet (22 to 25 mtr).
Cold Steel has completed an industrial building for UNICHARM (Neemrana) which has a clear span of 63 mtrs (207 feet).

1: Is it possible to dismantle the building and rebuild at another place? What will be the cost of new and reassembled building?

Yes, since the building is site assembled by bolting, it is possible to dismantle and rebuild at a new location. The cost benefits have to be worked out on a case-by-case basis, which would depend on size, complexity and distance of the new location.

2: Does Cold Steel Corporation Deliver nationwide?

Yes, we sell and deliver nationwide as well as internationally. From Leh in the north to Hosur In the south, and from Kutch In the west to Agartala in the east we have done 2000 projects pan India and covered the entire country comprehensively.

3: What is the difference between conventional and PEB construction?

PEB building is roughly 25 – 30% lighter in self-weight, contains light weight roll formed secondary members, offers higher resistance to seismic forces, will be delivered within average 6 to 8 weeks & has 30% lower overall price. Conventional steel building is heavier, contains heavy hot rolled secondary members, do not perform well in seismic zones, will take average 20 to 26 weeks & has higher price per square meter. Overall the PEB construction is a hassle free activity since onsite/conventional fabrication requires regular monitoring of labor, material and quality of work at site which can never match up with the quality of fabrication done in plant by use of sophisticated machines.

4: Do you provide a complete building package? What about Mezzanine floors?

At Cold Steel we design, supply and install the complete steel building including standard accessories. All accessories like sliding doors, louvers, ventilators, monitors, skylights etc. are manufactured in house by Cold Steel. We also design, supply and install buildings with mezzanine floors and provide complete primary beams, secondary joists and galvanized steel deck that supports a reinforced concrete slab (slab by others). Cold Steel does not execute civil/electrical/plumbing and interior work.

5: Do you make more than the typical industrial pre-engineered metal building?

Today, Cold Steel Building Systems go far beyond the traditional industrial structures. Our buildings range from large industrial buildings and warehouses to multi-story buildings to retail outlets, single storey villas, aircraft hangers, fuel station canopies and stadium structures. The aesthetic appeal and variety of end uses for metal building systems are only limited by your imagination.

6: What are the advantages of a Pre Engineered Building System?

At Cold Steel, we have become the countrywide leader in pre engineered building systems by providing a unique and powerful package. The advantages of a PEB system are:

  • Savings in time due to faster deliveries and quicker installation.
  • PEBs are superior and more durable as they are thoroughly designed using the latest software.
  • Flexibility: Buildings can be designed maintaining flexibility for future expansion in length, width and height.
  • Reduction in project cost: Reduction in project cost due to time saving in project implementation. This also results in earlier realization of revenue and hence increased project viability fast and efficient. Brick and mortar construction is, by its very and lower risks.
  • Faster Installation: Conventional building materials and processes are not nature, time consuming and require long lead- time for curing. Dry construction, however, is faster. Further, major components of the structure are delivered ‘ready to install’ at the site. This results in faster, standard, consistent quality construction with minimum skill requirements. It also provides for flexibility in relocation and redesigning. Thus, such prefabricated structures find great relevance.
  • Large clear spans: Buildings can be supplied in clear spans up to 90 m, particularly suitable for certain industries, aircraft hangers, sports facilities, etc.
  • Architectural versatility: Buildings can be supplied with special fascia, canopies, curved eaves and other architectural features required on the project.
7: Why choose a pre engineered building system?

The traditional advantages of pre engineered building systems have been their design flexibility (particularly large column free floor areas), consistent quality, speed of construction, and predictability of costs and completion schedules. These features remain as valid today as they were when the industry was in its infancy, over fifty years ago. Increasingly, architects, design professionals, and owners have realized the efficiency they gain in working with these systems. And architects lose none of their creative freedom in combining aesthetically attractive and functional metal systems with conventional building materials. The result has been the growth of metal building systems into a limitless variety of end use applications to provide functional and comfortable spaces for offices, factories, education, recreation, commerce, industry, and other special purposes.
